The photos within the page and the accompanying text are placed here as an aid to our Westie friends and "family" in obtaining proper Westie grooming.  We have had considerable requests for this information.  It seems many of our Westie puppy/dog owner families are experiencing difficulty obtaining the proper "Westie look" from groomers in their area.  We realize the Westie is a special breed that requires a special look.  Anyone who may benefit educationally from the information within this page, please, feel free to copy any of the photos and/or text.  This offer is made with the understanding that THE MATERIALS HEREIN SHALL NOT BE USED FOR ANY COMMERCIAL GAIN BUT, MAY BE USED AS A LEARNING TOOL FOR THEMSELVES

Above and to the right, in the BLUE FRAMES, BELOW THE YELLOW XXXX are a few shots of a Westie that recently came to our grooming shop that has been going to a groomer who had no idea of how to groom a Westie.  Your dog should never look like this.  A good and KNOWLEDGEABLE groomer is difficult to find.  If  and when you find one, be very thankful for you fortune.  A good groomer is a key player in keeping you dog healthy and should inform you of any situation he/she fines that may be cause for concern and they should always cover ALL of the aspects of proper grooming ie. clearing out the anal glands, proper bathing with the best shampoo for your type dog, cleaning the ears, hand-blow drying (NEVER CAGE DRYING) and brushing-out your pet, properly trimming the toe nails to 1/32 inch of the "quick" and having a decently clean work and holding area. Edit Text

This dog had been taken monthly to a  grooming shop and supposedly groomed by the shop's "manager".  This person surely had no knowledge of how to groom a Westie, nor had the annal glands been cleaned properly.  When we emptied the glands, it came out in a very hard state which shows that it had not been emptied in a very long time.  This can/will cause impaction, infection and pain sometimes shown by the dog dragging his bottom along the ground trying to relieve the problem.  Edit Text
