Mange Mites are not all that prevalent in most
areas but, one should be aware of the condition. It is caused by a microscopic skin mite. This disorder causes
severe skin irritation and loss of hair, either in areas or in severe cases, all over the dog. This is a condition
which you do not want to procrastinate about! It can go from mild to quite severe in a very short time.
There
are veterinary medications that kill the mites but, they are also toxic to your dog. Unbeknown to even most Vets. there
is a simple remedy that you can mix-up and use that, according to reported use, seems to cause absolutely no
harm to your dog but, will kill those little critters and cure the problem. I have never had to
deal with Mange Mites so, I have not tried this remedy, personally. The way I look at it, if I can find something
that is not toxic, to aid myself or my dog, I'd be willing to give it a try!
Here is the recipe:
1. 1 - 16 oz. bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide
2. 32 oz. of warm water
3. 4 - Tablespoons of "20 Mule Team Borax Laundry Soap)
Hopefully, you can do this in nice warm weather. You don't want
your dog to become cold.
Mix all
ingredients in a bucket and sponge the solution all over the animal being sure to soak the skin very well. Do
not towel dry your dog! You'll want to allow him/her to "air dry" in the sun. Mites will
be on the hair strands also so, you'll want the hair to stay wet for a while. Within three days, you should
notice new hair beginning to grow in the areas that were most affected. On the forth day, repeat the process to kill
off any missed mites. Three days after this second treatment, shampoo you dog with a high quality, Hypo-allergenic
shampoo to remove the treatment residues.
Keep an eye on your dog, for about 10 days, to see if he/she returns
to itching. You'll want to be sure ALL the mites have been killed. Should you notice he is itching, perform
a third mite treatment and then the hypo shampooing, three days after that, as you did prior. Your dog should
now be free of these nasty little critters and much happier.
Again, I have not personally
used this solution for mites but, I have read several accounts of it working wonders, 100%!
