Food All our puppies are raised on Nutro
(brand) Natural Choice Lamb and Rice Puppy Kibble. Kibble is the word denoting a dry food. We always recommend
feeding dry food but, there is a time when we, and your puppy, would like you to add some warm water to the dry food.
The period is when your puppy is loosing his puppy teeth, which normally begins in the forth month and continues,
sometimes, into the sixth month. During this period, his/her mouth will be quite tender and the softer food will
make eating much easier. Place the dry kibble in the feeding dish and add just enough warm water to cover the food about
half way. Allow this to soak for about 5-10 minutes and then offer it. . Although your puppy will require "puppy food" until he/she
is 8-9 months of age, it is best to purchase not more than 20 pounds at a time. 20 lbs. will last quite
awhile and you don't want it to become old.
The Crate This is something every small dog owner should have and USE. "SOME PEOPLE" see it
as a sort of "Prison" for the dog but, a crate SHOULD NEVER BE USED FOR PUNISHMENT. This should
be his/her "Safe Place". It can be used for containment when you need to be away from home for awhile
and your pup can't or should't go with you; it can be and often is at our Ranch, a sleeping area where their bed is;
it should be used when small children visit and the dog has had enough time with them and feels the need to get some peace
and quit. It is and should be a SAFE PLACE. A PLACE OF SECURITY. Many times our dogs will go to their crate,
open the door, if not latched, and go inside just to take a nap for awhile. The best size for a Westie is
the one in the photo below. It is small enough to offer comfort, yet large enough for a adult Westie and to
place a food and water dish in if needed.
| This crate measures: 21" X 30" X 23" |

|
| A crate like this, with two doors, can be very handy at times. |
| Friday in his "Safe Place". This is where he and |

| and most all of our Westies sleep at night. |

Food Dishes We
highly recommend the "Durapet Bowls". These units are made of heavy stainless steel, have a rubber ring on
the bottom and will last a lifetime. They measure 6 1/4" (top) 5 1/2" (bottom) and 2 3/8"
deep. These are called a 20 oz. bowl. Two units needed. Pictured below. We generally have
these bowls on hand for sale.

Bed We really like the "Slumber Pet" (brand) "Sherpa" beds.
They have a rolled edge that Westies love to use as a pillow and they are easily washed in you washing machine(be sure
to clean out the hair afterward). These come in many colors. It is best to obtain the proper sized bed.
Young puppies will require a "X-Small" size (18" X 12"), while adult Westies will require a "Small"
(17" X 24"). We generally have these beds on hand for sale.
Brush, Comb and Extendable Lead These three items you will want to have on hand to help keep your puppy/dog
looking nice between visits to the groomer. You may also want to have some good quality dog shampoo to use between grooming
trips. Any profesional groomer should be able to supply these items but, if not, please give us a call and
we'll be more than happy to send them to you. We always keep these and much more on hand in our Grooming Shop, here
at the Ranch. Below, I have placed photos of the type brush, comb and lead that we feel works best for Westies.
| This is called a Slicker Brush. It measures |
|
|
| 2 1/2 " X 4". NOTE THE ANGLED PINS. |
| A 7 1/2" Coated steel. Half the teeth are "fine" |
|
|
| half "course" teeth. You'll never need another comb.. |
